Video Premiere: Bambi Lee Savage’s “Honey” from Berlin-Nashville Express

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Bambi Lee Savage’s song “Honey” from her forthcoming release Berlin-Nashville Express, which was engineered by Steve Nistor at Hunter’s Hollow in Los Angeles and mixed by Sean Sullivan. “Honey” is Savage on vocals and acoustic guitar, with Jim Wilson on guitars & bass and Steve Nistor on drums & percussion.  The video is by Aelstrom & Lee.

Watch in a pink setting complete with rotary phone and life-sized dancing mascot, while the throwback Beatles-esque music plays.  Echoing the “I am the Walrus” era, Savage and company have created a visual delight for eyes while the ears dance to the sock hop love song.  Berlin-Nashville Express promises to be an entertaining project, and “Honey” is clearly one of its highest upsides.

The majority of the songs on “Berlin-Nashville Express” were written while I was living in Berlin, so when it finally came time to assemble them into a record I really felt like I needed some new material – in part because I wanted to re-invigorate my enthusiasm for a project that had been simmering for such a long time, but I also felt the record needed an upbeat love song since several of the other tracks are about the down side of life and love. I wrote “Honey” in about twenty minutes, which was a delight and a relief because I do have a suitcase load of unfinished songs in my life so it’s always great to get one out the door straightaway! It came together really quickly in the studio, with a sort of early-Beatles vibe. And speaking of The Beatles, as a kid I loved the video of them performing “I Am the Walrus” in animal costumes, so that was probably somewhere in the back of my mind when I imagined an animal to sort of stand in as “Honey” – and as long as I’ve got a giant raccoon there pretending to play guitar, why not give him the solo? A good friend of mine who has been known to tear up the dance floor with some cool and goofy moves was easily enlisted and we shot it in a lovely house in East Nashville in an afternoon.  — Bambi Lee Savage
