EP Premiere: Alice and the Underground’s “Cocaine and Cabernet”

Album Premieres Listen & Watch
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Alice & the Underground’s new EP Cocaine and Cabernet, which was recorded at DJ Fix, Brooklyn by Jon Hildenstein and Quinn McCarthy; mastered by Joe Lambert. The EP features Alice Sorensen on keys and vocals, Jon Hildenstein on guitars, Danny Reisbick on bass and Douglas Rosebank on drums.
As a child, Alice grew up absorbing country music styles playing piano with her dad, musician Ron Sorensen, so the EP is set against the backdrop of a lifetime of musicianship in great company. It exhibits a seamless blending of country style vocals, shuffly rockabilly, and more traditional country musical styles.  All this with determined, punchy lyrics, like: “you could do anything but change my mind.”

I feel like this EP has such a different character than Remind Me – with the single, we worked it out in two days at the studio. It was as if it was begging to be recorded. But with the EP I think we really took our time experimenting with different layers and sounds, we wanted to capture something specific. We kept a lot of it in-house, and the result was that we ended up with this sound that was, quite literally, closer to our rehearsal sound, and that has been really satisfying. -Alice Sorensen
