Listen: Entire Album Premiere of Mink’s Miracle Medicine’s “Pyramid Theories” — Out Friday!

Album Premieres Listen & Watch

Americana Highways is pleased to bring you the premiere of Mink’s Miracle Medicine’s entire upcoming album, Pyramid Theories. The album is due out Friday October 5 but you can give it a listen right now!  The album features Melissa Wright on vox, guitar and keys; Daniel Zezeski on vox and drums; with Matt Schimelfenig on bass.  The album was engineered and mixed by Shimelfenig and mastered by Ian Farmer.  Photography for the album cover is courtesy of Jessica Flynn.

Melissa Wright wrote most of the lyrics, which are the album’s central hook. Lyrics like:  “bombs and booze, but can I borrow you?” are startling profundity while the band’s stripped down rhythms build a country foundation.  There is a unique twist on country music afoot in these songs because there is a more sonic overlay with keys and lyrics that suggest philosophical and archaelogical curiosity.  But it retains country simplicity that comes across most distinctly in songs like “Now I Understand the Blues,” where clear country musical influences are mingled with more profundity in: “every time I look at myself I can see exactly who you are.”  “Uninterrupted Time”‘s  rhythms are built in lockstep so that you can almost hear a tambourine, and “Born Again,” again rides along with country style loping rhythms.

Pyramid theories was mostly written and recorded over the course of a year after releasing our first record, House of Candles. I had been pushing myself to write and record almost every day for that year, meanwhile binge watching Ancient Aliens and countless National Geographic specials on ancient cultures, ruminating on time, humanity, and choices we make. — Melissa Wright
