Jayne Kelli “Sweetness”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Jayne Kelli’s song “Sweetness” form her forthcoming album set for release via Gone Rogue Music next year. It was produced, mixed and mastered by AJ Swearingen and co-produced by Jayne Kelli. This song will be available on October 23.
“Sweetness” is Jayne Kelli on vocals, guitar, violin synth, and backing vocals; AJ Swearingen on low guitars, dobro, drums, bass and ukulele,
As Jayne tells us about this song, “‘Sweetness’ came out in a cyclical pattern, a three-chord harmonic vamp, that reflected the push and pull of a relationship I got myself into at 22. AJ layered low finger-picked acoustic guitars with harmonized slide parts on his 1929 Dobro. The sonic palette of all the sounds combined gives the song an underlying medieval tone. My mind never fully let me go back and immerse myself in the memories of this time period, but I did my best in the studio to sing from that emotional space to properly translate and honor the song. Our bodies, mind, and spirit know how to create art and heal out of turmoil. If “Sweetness” acts as a mirror for one person who needs to leave someone behind so they can remain whole, it’s done its job. If someone needs your light dimmed and control to feel secure, it’s time to go.”
Kelli has a storyteller’s voice that draws you in the listen as she sings. This certainly has a shadowy mystique: “Now there’s a keeper, Now there’s a cage, One mouth keeps quiet, To settle the rage.” Jayne describes it as medieval and it’s exactly that: haunting and dark, echoey and subtle.
