Louise Bichan “Greenwood Sidie-o”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Louise Bichan’s version of the traditional song “Greenwood Side-o” from her forthcoming album Binnorie, which is set for release on October 30. This song will be available on Octobre 12. Binnorie was engineered and mixed by Ethan Setiawan at Sassafras Hill Productions, with additional engineering by Keir Long at Gloworm Studios, Chris Waite at Gran’s House Studio, and Darren Schneider, Brian Cromarty, Rachel Sermanni, and Kris Drever. The album was mastered by Sam Leslie at SunBear Sound. This song will be available on October 12.
“Side-o” is Louise Bichan on vocals, strings, and fiddle; Rachel Sermanni on vocals; Kris Drever on vocals; Ethan Setiawan on mandolin; Conor Hearn on guitar; Brendan Hearn on cello; Katie McNally on strings; Neil Pearlman on synthesizer; and Noah Fishman on double bass.
As Louise tells us about the song, “This old Scottish murder ballad features two of my favourite Scottish singers, and a lush string arrangement I wrote with Katie McNally. I had a lot of fun telling the story.”
Louise Bichan is a Scottish fiddler with an emotional vocal that holds suspense. This is a sustained, understated version of a twisted tale that honors the timeless characteristics of human nature, which features Rachel Sermanni and Kris Driver in delightful harmonies too.
