Amanda Pearcy “Some Elaborate Alibi”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Amanda Pearcy’s song “Some Elaborate Alibi,” the title track from her forthcoming album set for release next year. The album was recorded and engineered by Jono Manson at Engine 70 Studios in Santa Fe, NM, with additional recording and mixing by Jono. The strings were recorded by Tim Lorsch in Nashville.
“Some Elaborate Alibi” as recorded is Amanda Pearcy on acoustic rhythm guitar and vocals; Mark Clark on drums; Jon Graboff on pedal steel; Ronnie Johnson on bass; Tim Lorsch on strings; Jono Manson on harmony vocals; Sergio Webb on electric rhythm guitar; and Cullen Winter on electric lead guitar.
As Amanda tells us about the song, “This is the title track of the album being released in early 2027. It has a retro upbeat pop vibe incorporating a luscious soaring combination of pedal steel and strings that lift the dark theme of a forbidden romance… if it were to happen, another’s heart would break, thus some elaborate alibi would be needed.”

Sometimes songs about forbidden romances are of the heavier bluesy persuasion but this one is light and gentle, a thoughtful take on needing an alibi. Footage of the band playing in in the homey studio, front of a fireplace on an oriental rug, with a lava lamp, adds to the song’s warm feel.
