Singer-songwriter Anna Moon & The Stars releases her debut album, Oh MY God! It’s a Resurrection, produced alongside Ryan Hughes.
The album was born during a transformative solo road trip through the American Southwest, where endless highways and desert skies inspired a collection of songs made for open windows, late-night drives, and anyone searching for a fresh beginning.
Moon explains, “I wanted to make a record that I’d listen to over and over again. Life is heartbreaking, beautiful, messy, and miraculous all at once. This album embraces all of it.”
Moon’s music has been featured in Grey’s Anatomy, Love Is Blind, General Hospital, Married at First Sight, The Young & The Restless, Hallmark Channel’s 12 Dates Till Christmas, Teen Mom, and the trailer for Marked Men: Rule + Shaw.
The title track opens the album, rolling out on shimmering surfaces that flow into a delicious, pushing rhythm topped by Moon’s tight, evocative vocals. The mood of the song conveys feelings of welcome surprise, and wonder.
Highlights include “Father’s Daughter,” a luminously colored song that allows Moon to strut the supple allure of her voice, nuanced and full of luscious pop flavors. A personal favorite because of its hints of alt-country and pop-country, “Hollyhocks” features outstanding percussion, grand vocal harmonies, and the silky-smooth, rounded tones of Moon’s wonderful voice: at once tender, soft, and yet charmingly expansive.
Another favorite because of its gentle, pulsing melody, “Lavender Disaster” glides and sways on luxurious surfaces. Moon’s voice embraces a velvety edge, infusing the lyrics with luscious, drifting sonic hues.
“Blue Flame” carries listeners back to the ‘60s with its retro textures and beautifully bending melody. This track demonstrates the scope of Moon’s voice: simultaneously exquisitely subtle and haunting.
The supple, suffusing colors of “Desperate Need of Saving” provide listeners with a magical experience, while “Lemon Dream” offers shadowy tones of country blended with tints of dream-pop.
“Hard to be without you” travels on shimmering blushes that almost float. The measured rhythm coasts while Moon’s wistful voice sails overhead, imbuing the lyrics with gorgeously mellow savors.
With her debut album, Anna Moon & The Stars delivers a collection of songs that should appear on most Best Albums of the Year lists.
