Domenic Cicala “Dark End of the Street”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Domenic Cicala’s song “Dark End of the Street” from his forthcoming album of vocal duets, Duet Again. Duet Again was produced by Domenic Cicala and Steve Carr and engineered by Steve Carr. This song was written by Dan Penn and Chips Moman and will be available on September 3.
Duet Again is the second album in his series of duet albums, this time covering the most excellent soul music.
“Dark End of the Street” is Domenic Cicala on vocals, guitars and drums, and Michelle Hannan on vocals.
As Domenic tells us about the song, “‘The Dark End of the Street. This was a late edition. It was never intended for this record. I was a song short of what I wanted the length of the record to be. I had never heard it as a duet. But when I looked it up, I found two prominent covers. Neither of which, I felt did justice to the song. I believe we did.”
Set to an easygoing tempo, this duet trades off Michelle Hannan’s honeyed vocals with Domenic’s honest ones. It’s instantly a loving slow dance, conjuring low lights and bodies pressed together in hushed rhythms.
