Bronwyn “Johnny Ray”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Bronwyn’s song “Johnny Ray” from her forthcoming album Rattlin’ Bones, which is set for release on August 14. Rattlin’ Bones was co-produced by Bronwyn and Brent Truitt; engineered and mixed by Brent Truitt and Sean Sullivan; and mastered by Alex McCollough.
“Johnny Ray” is Bronwyn on fiddle and lead vocals; Darrell Scott on harmony vocals; Jerry Douglas on dobro; Dominick Leslie on mandolin; Bryan Sutton on guitar; Wesley Corbett on banjo; Jeff Picker on bass; and Miles Miller on drums.
As Bronwyn tells us, “I wrote ‘Johnny Ray’ with my friend and songwriting legend Pat McLaughlin. It went through a couple versions before we settled on this one and I remember we almost gave up on it, but I’m so glad we didn’t because it’s turned into one of my favorite songs on the album. This live video was filmed in Goodlettsville TN with my touring band, (Tristan Scroggins, Frank Evans, Grant Dresnok and Larry Cook) and they’ve really brought this song to life.”
Bronwyn has been a member of the Molly Tuttle band, in case her name rings a bell. This video is the musicians gathered together, standing and playing in a living room setting – banjo, fiddle, stand up bass, mandolin and bright acoustic guitar. As the song picks up and builds until it soars, it touches the core of what’s most loved and most authentic about music – the human element. A very talented display and excellent songsmanship.
