Courtney Hartman “Like A Woman”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Courtney Hartman’s song “Like A Woman” from her forthcoming album With You: From The Garden Shed, which is an acoustic version of her 2025 album With You, and is set for release on June 12. The abyss was produced by Courtney Hartman; co-produced, recorded and mixed by Shane Leonard; and mastered by Andy Whilden.
“Like A Woman” is Courtney on vocals and acoustic guitar.
As Courtney tells us about the song, “I wrote ‘Like A Woman’ in my first summer of motherhood. Even as I was learning how to be a mother, I was yearning to be mothered. To be in need of care is deeply humbling — at times, even humiliating. But being on the receiving end of care from friends and strangers alike prepared my heart and body for years of caregiving to come. Sarah Siskind co-wrote this song with me, and we wanted the lyrics to speak to the many journeys we make as women, not just the singular journey of birth. As sisters and mothers and daughters, we need one another. I am now wholly convinced that caregiving, in all the forms it takes, expands our heart’s capacity for compassion.”
This simple, honest song comes straight from the heart and Courtney’s uncomplicated, slightly mournful yet equally sweet vocals twirl around your mind like one of our own thoughts.
