The Binoculars “Lookout Heart”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of The Binoculars’ version of the Lila Duncan song “Lookout Heart” from their forthcoming debut album, Double Whammy, which is set for release on July 17 via Jalopy Records. Double Whammy was recorded and mixed by Joseph “joebass” DeJarnette at Greenpoint Recording Collective and mastered by Matt Powell.
“Lookout Heart” is Kaethe Hostetter on guitar and Chloë Swantner on lapsteel and vocals.
As the Binoculars tell us about the song, “We came across this nugget while listening to an old radio show from the WFMU archives. A country and honkytonk radio show called Diesel Smoke & Dangerous Curves included Coy Jackson’s recording of “Lookout Heart” on one of its episodes. Thanks DJ Julea for hipping us to this deep cut.”
The Brooklyn Duo showcases their deliriously delightful harmonies all throughout the whole album of Doc Watson, Louvin Brothers Classics, and other classic and international covers. On this song in particular, the paced vocal meters are buoyed by light and melodious pedal steel and rustic acoustic guitar rhythmic melodies combining fluidly. The duo handily highlights the relevance of these classic folk songs.
