As Stephen tells us about this song, “I’ve spent most of my life in and around songs – writing them, playing them, and helping other artists find their way. These days, sometimes I’m writing, some days I’m producing, some days I’m just working on one song for hours, but it all comes from the same place in my soul. If there’s one constant in my life, it’s that the music keeps finding its way back to me, one way or another.
“When my voice disappeared for that year, it forced me to listen differently. My voice came back quieter and deeper, but it felt more honest – like it finally matched the stories I was trying to tell.
“Sometimes songs tend to arrive quickly. I try not to overthink them, and I just try to preserve that moment.
“These last years have brought me to a place where, like with ‘Perfect Story,’ even when things don’t unfold the way we hope, there’s often something meaningful waiting on the other side of it. The thread running through this new music is about finding the light without pretending the dark isn’t there.”
