Peter Karp “Tooth and Nail”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Peter Karp’s song “Tooth and Nail” from his forthcoming album Jersey Town. The album will be available on April. This song will be released on March 12.
“Tooth and Nail” was recorded live with Rick Vito (a Jersey guy) overdubbing the solo against the relentless rattle and slide of Peter’s National steel guitar.
“Tooth and Nail” is Peter Karp on slide guitar and vocals; Rick Vito on guitar; Niles Terrat on bass; and Mike Catapano on drums.
‘Tooth and Nail’ has a crooked storyline with vivid, stark imagery. A few years ago, I met the renowned black-and-white photographer Andy Parker. Andy shoots in and around Venice and the Lido. We started talking about working together. We talked about how empty and strange and surreal the beach is. It was the perfect location for this song.
This video was directed and edited by Andy Parker. A bluesy affair filmed on the beach in Lido de Venezia, Venice, Italy, the song launches its bluesy meta-escapades: “Woke up this morning. Felt as deserted as a smoldering mattress on a barren train track. “Why are you feeling lonely, baby?” She had to know. “‘Cause I’m funking nuts,” I shot back. My former best friend used to while away the hours moaning how this life was like spending time in jail. But I wouldn’t address it. I wouldn’t think about it. I just kept on living on, fighting tooth and nail.” That “brain on fire” feeling is something we can all relate to right now, absolutely.
