Matthew Ryan “Fan Mail Blues”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Matthew Ryan’s song “Fan Mail Blues” from his forthcoming album A Little Imperfect, which is set for release on March 27. This song will be available on Feb 6. The album was produced by Alfred Goodrich and Matthew Ryan; engineered, mixed and mastered by Alfred Goodrich; and recorded at Silvertone Sudios in Ardmore, Pennsylvania with additional recording by Tom Naglee and Luis Gonzales.
“Fan Mail Blues” is Matthew Ryan on acoustic and electric guitar and vocals; Alfred Goodrich on cello, mandolin and dhumbek; and Bob Beach on harmonica.
As Matthew tells us about the context for this song: “‘Fan Mail Blues’ is a reference to the pile of overdue bills that accumulated in my starving artist days. Overdue bills that were mailed were colored to reflect how many days they were late. The dart board referenced in the song was actually used to determine which overdue bill I might pay.”
Matthew has that spine-chilling gritty guitar playing style and with the addition of the low harmonica, this stands out as instant old-timey bluesy classic. “Where’s my money, where’s their dough? I never seem to have it when I need it so, it disappears like a ghost and it gets away when I need it most.” Yep.
