Will Carter Band “Holdin’ On”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Will Carter’s song “Holdin’ On” from his forthcoming self- titled album, which is set for release on March 27. The album was produced by Chad Mauldin at KSIJ Studio and Trent Willmon at Wire Road Studio.
“Holdin’ On” is Will Carter on vocals and guitar; Dillan Dostal on guitar; Blake “Bino” Denbina on fiddle; Carlos Pineda Avila on bass; and Jacob Lee on drums. The video was directed by Hala Mirza of. Aichon Media LLC with co-director Will Carter. Additional crew members for the video were Freddy Dang, Macao Parrott, Selasi Kudowor, Pyrexx, Stephen Spencer, Uche Ogbonna and Alexa Dorisca.
As Will tells us, “I came up with the idea for the “Holdin’ On” music video while holding my 2 month old baby daughter, Grace. We had just recorded “Holdin’ On” with Trent Willmon. She wasn’t sleeping through the night yet and I was taking care of her during one of her 3am wakes. After I had changed and fed her, I noticed an email from Trent with the first studio mix of the song. I was holding her, dancing her back to sleep and listening to the fully produced song for the first time. I decided right then that I wanted to recreate that moment for the music video. My oldest daughter, Kylee, was also getting married the next month so I wanted the video to capture the full circle progression of holding your baby girl, watching her grow up, eventually getting married and leaving you. We had my niece, Aurora play the toddler part in the video. All three of the girls knocked it out of the park. The song is about a dance that symbolizes the relationship. You think you’re leading, but they’ve got you wrapped around their finger and you’re really just ‘holdin’ on’.”
Parenthood is a phenomenon that moves you deeply, and this song keeps its eyes on that: “I can’t see into the future, but looking into your eyes I get this crazy feeling, I’m gonna be in, for one hell of a ride.” It’s an easy breezy country style love song. The video mixes footage drawing a trajectory from a small baby, growing through toddlerhood and childhood to an older daughter’s wedding, as it sings of the mesmerizing feeling love that’s there all along the way.
