Rebekah Snyder “Up on the House Top”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Rebekah Snyder’s version of the Christmas classic “Up on the House Top” (lyrics and music written by Benjamin R. Hanby; this arrangement by Rebekah Snyder). It was produced By Dean Miller, mixed by David Buchanan, and recorded at Beaird Music Group in Nashville.
“Up on the House Top” is Rebekah Snyder and children on vocals; Evan Hutchings on drums; Eli Beaird on bass; James Mitchell on electric guitar; Wil Houchens on piano; Kyle Everson on steel guitar; Devin Malone on acoustic guitar and banjo; and Wanda Vick on fiddle.
Rebekah tells us about the song: “The story behind the Christmas song is this: I was already going to Nashville over Thanksgiving and planned to record two songs with Producer Dean Miller, with whom I am finishing my full-length album. As we were making plans, I realized I would bring the kids with me, and this would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record a Christmas song with them while they are still young and enjoying the holidays.
“Since I knew the kids would be with me, I wanted to pick a song that children love. My son, Thomas, performed “Up on the Housetop” at his second-grade Christmas pageant last year, and he liked the song and knew the words. I am a single mom, and I love my kids and want to create special memories with them, especially around the holidays. This seemed like the perfect opportunity. There were verses in which my youngest son and daughter could sing a line. My middle son provided the clicks, and we all joined in a chorus of ‘ho ho ho!'”
The children’s harmonies are just the right touch. This song is charming and classic, fun for everyone.
