Jared Dustin Griffin – “Howl at the Moon”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Jared Dustin Griffin’s song “Howl at the Moon” from his forthcoming album Perseverance of Sisyphus, which is set for release on September 26. Perseverance of Sisyphus was produced by Jared Dustin Griffin and Brian Brinkerhoff; mixed by Scott Halliday; and mastered by Justin Weis.
Musicians on “Howl at the Moon” are Jared Dustin Griffin on vocals, guitar and harmonica; Heather Little on harmonies; Fergal Scahill on fiddle and mandolin; Nathan Alef on piano; Matt Greco on piano and organ; Dave Campbell on banjo; Frank Swart on bass; and Derrick Phillips on drums.
Ragtime piano and a slightly macabre vocal evokes a southern gothic feel and a late night festival, as Jared Dustin Griffin hits the Tom Waits button – growly, Southern, and just oozing cool. The concept of redemption is raised, with these lines: “It might come in summer / When the heat makes sweet love to your skin / It’s too hot for salvation / But maybe the sweat will wash away the sin.”
From Jared Dustin Griffin: “Howl at the Moon” is a ragtime romp, meant to shake the dust from the album’s journey. I wanted something bright and jangling, a song that bounces with the wild energy of a midnight street parade. It’s a celebration of chaos and release, a reminder that sometimes the only way to cope with the weight of the world is to let loose and howl.
