Moe Bandy – Keys in the Mailbox
Americana Highways presents this premiere of the legendary songwriter Moe Bandy’s version of the song “Keys in the Mailbox” made famous by Buck Owens and written by Harlan Howard. This song is part of Moe’s brand new album Songs I Missed, set for release on May 2, which is his rendition of some of his all-time favorite songs. The album was mixed and mastered by Jimmy and Mark Capp.
Moe Bandy is an acclaimed honky tonk country musician whose songs are beloved by so very many, and who is often covered alongside Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. In this album, he is offering some of his choice picks from over the years that were written by others and are now covered by Moe here.
“Keys in the Mailbox” is Moe Bandy on vocals; John Clark on steel guitar; Buster Sharp on bass; Nick Ochoa on drums; Dennis Casey on lead guitar; Jimmy Capps on rhythm guitar; Gary Prim on piano; Tommy Rials on piano; and Eamon McLoughlin on fiddle.
“I have been so blessed making a living as an entertainer and meeting so many of my heroes along the way,” shares Bandy. “Meeting and becoming good friends with those who paved the way is something you can’t describe. I decided it was time to record my version of some of the biggest hits in country music that I wished I could have recorded from the beginning.”
With upswells of pedal steel and a honky tonk rhythm with piano and guitar calling and responding in turns, and Moe’s easy twangy vocals and the pure lines: “I’ll never even ask you where you’ve been, oh the key’s in the mailbox, come on in.”
