From The Dirt – “Trainwreck at the Bluegrass Jam”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of From the Dirt’s song “Trainwreck at the Bluegrass Jam” from their forthcoming album Colored Edge of Memory, which will be released on June 27. This song, though, will be available on May 2. Colored Edge of Memory was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Jerry Brown at the Rubber Room in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
“Trainwreck at the Bluegrass Jam” is From the Dirt: Daniel Kenny (s0ngwriter) on guitars and vocals; Jeff Karn on mandolin and vocals; Eddie Dickerson on fiddle; and Megan Leigh on harmony vocals; with Rick LaFleur on banjo; Robbie Link on bass; Joe MacPhail on drums and keys; and Joseph Terrell on guitars.
This song is burning brightly with bluegrass energy, in this swirly song about a performance that turned into a trainwreck even when everything was set up right. What else is there to do when that happens but keep playing it through to the end? Good advice for songwriting, jamming together, performing on stage, and life itself. From the Dirt is busting out all over the place on this one.
I wrote this one on the way home from a recent bluegrass jam in Frederick, Maryland. Central Maryland is the birthplace of The Seldom Scene, and jams in the area are hot and heavy with pickers from West Virginia, Southern Pennsylvania, and Central & Western Maryland. We had a couple “jam busters” and this song just wrote itself on the way home. “When everything that could go wrong does go wrong, but you get thru it with a smile and a beer…” – Daniel Kenny
