Jenner Fox – “Anything”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Jenner Fox’s song “Anything” from his forthcoming EP Knick Knack, which was recorded at Sage Arts Recording in Arlington, WA. The EP was mixed and engineered by Jordan Cunningham with assistant engineering by Jordan Campbell, and mastered by Adam Gonsalves.
Musicians on “Anything” are Aaron Guest on piano, Wurlitzer, organ, and vocals; Aaron Moore on electric and upright bass, trombone, and vocals; Benji Nagel on dobro, lap steel, weissenborn, and vocals; Jenner Fox on acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and vocals; and Jeremy Elliott on acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and vocals. “Anything” was co-written with Natalie Akers. When something has ended, there’s inevitably a part in the process where the fighting has ended and it all feels so pointless and you wonder if maybe it could have worked out after all: “I would say anything.” Jenner Fox takes this further with a heart wrenching line about what happens when your kids call and want to come be with you. This is a song that took courage to write and surely takes courage to perform because it doesn’t shy away from the painful heart of the matter. The music, too, is lovely.
What if that chance encounter at the dog park had worked out? What would you say to turn back history? “Anything” unfolds like a fever dream of might have beens. Awash in muted piano tones and pulsing rubber bridge guitar, “Anything” culminates in a head turning tour de force electric guitar outro. Perfect for lovers of coffee shops, folk playlists, Wilco, Big Thief, absurdity/sincerity, & indie folk sounds. – Jenner Fox
