The video of the duo playing outside on old abandoned railroad tracks – at the back of row houses – was filmed, recorded, and edited by David Benedict.
Blending the historic poetry of James Joyce into a contemporary song style in a display of what they do best, Rakish has created a very pleasing, spirited song. It’s a lively fiddle and acoustic guitar jam.
The song “Lightly Come or Lightly Go” is our adaptation of an early poem by James Joyce. In the collection it comes from (called Chamber Music) it’s titled “XXV,” so the title comes to us from the first line of the first stanza. Taking this relatively old text and bringing it to life with the music that we write, which itself is very influenced by traditional celtic music, is a joyous discovery process. There is some melancholy to the poem, but also a good deal of hope, so it becomes a good writing prompt to try to compose something musical that deals with everything in that emotional register. – Rakish
