Beau Jennings & the Tigers – “Broken Angel”

Americana Highways presents this premiere of Beau Jennings & the Tigers’ song “Broken Angel” from their forthcoming album American Stories Major Chords, due out October 18th. This song will be released on July 12. American Stories Major Chords was recorded, produced and mixed by Michael Trepagnier at Cardinal Song with additional tracking by Nate Nelson at Tweed Recording; and assistant engineers Grant Henson, Liam Hawn and Corbin Cooper. The album was mastered by Kevin Lively.

“Broken Angel” is Beau on guitar and vocals; Chase Kerby on banjo; Dustin Ragland on drums; Michael Trepagnier (Ray Wylie Hubbard, John Moreland) on bass; and Chris Wiser on piano.

With lonesome “Blowin’ in the Wind” era Bob Dylan-style harmonica and smoking’ guitar, this song co-mingles some of Americana music’s best vibes – heartland rock and folk and Oklahoma groove. “Hey, I wouldn’t have it any other way… Oh, no, I’ve been here too long, now I gotta go, I’m gonna see what’s behind another door, I’m gonna leave behind what I don’t need anymore …” Sometimes you just know when it’s time to move along.

I’d always thought I’d write tons of songs about living 7 years in Brooklyn, but they never came to me directly. This was the first time to try and recapture some of those years in a song. I had several other verses that all came to me at once, I had to cut a lot. This was my first time to record a guitar solo – Chase Kerby couldn’t make the session that day so I thought lemme try one. He later more than made up for it. He said ‘I’m gonna record banjo on there’, and I just wasn’t hearing it but I also trusted him so I said ‘sure let’s see’. Sure enough it was the perfect touch. – Beau Jennings
