William Wallace – “Closer By the Firelight”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of William Wallace’s song “Closer By the Firelight.” This song will be part of an album in a few months. It was recorded and mixed at Cedar Creek Studio by Andre Moran, and then it was mastered by Max Lorenzen.

“Closer by the Firelight” is William Wallace on guitar and vocals; Chris Alcaraz on upright bass and harmonies; and Warren Hood on fiddle.

This could easily be sung around the firelight – with tranquil and uncomplicated acoustic fingerpicking and Warren’s lonesome fiddle “in the darkness there’s no need for your disguise, come closer by the firelight and throw your sparks into the sky.”

“Closer by the Firelight” is a song I wrote in the west Texas desert after moving back to the United States from England. It’s a Homeric folk song about the warmth the metaphorical fire of community brings, and the ability for that fire to keep the shining eyes of similarly metaphorical dire wolves and sabertooth tigers firmly out in the darkness at a safe distance. – William Wallace
