Evan McMillian – “Symmes Dream”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Evan McMillian’s song “Symmes Dream” from his forthcoming album For A Dreamer, which is scheduled for release on August 2. For a Dreamer was produced and recorded by Jacob Tippey at Candyland Recording Studio in Dayton KY with additional production at the Martini Church in Cincinnati OH.  It was mixed by Jacob Tippey and mastered by Mike Montgomery.

“Symmes Dream” is Evan McMillian on vocals and acoustic guitar; Aaron Cordell on drums; Dan Dorff Jr. on piano; Steve Hauke on pedal steel, dobro, and baritone electric; and Matt McCoy on upright bass and Arco bass.

Friendly pedal steel and baritone licks are prominent and take turns in waves in this song that’s nice and easy. “It was Symmes dream, wonder what it means, maybe we don’t listen as much as you think.”   John Cleves Symmes Jr, the inspiration for this song, had a theory more than 200 years ago that we could access the inner core of the earth, which was hollow. This song is a bit of an ode to the big dreamers and those who choose to live life and revision reality in their own way.

I wrote this during a time of uncertainty, and slowly began to re-evaluate my life and life in general. I came to the conclusion that in the end it doesn’t matter , and in order to be happy you should be able to live life on your own terms. – Evan McMillian
