Jon Spear – “Flowers”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Jon Spear’s song “Flowers” from his forthcoming EP Flowers and Other Songs. The EP was produced and engineered by Andrew Fritz Waldeck; recorded by Jon; and mixed and mastered at Union Hill Recording. It will be available for streaming or download on March 15.
“Flowers” is Jon Spear on vocals and other instruments; Andy Leftwich on mandolin; and Andy Waldeck on backing vocals. Pretty mandolin and bluegrass instruments in a country style arrangement conjure up a gentle scene – springtime, easy breezes, and a simple gift of flowers. Sometimes the best songs are about the simple gestures, like this one. Thanks Jon.
We get so caught up in our busy lives we sometimes forget to let our loved ones know how much we care. “Flowers” is a gentle reminder that time slips away faster than we realize. I’m amazed by the number of people who have been genuinely touched by this song. Buddy Guy was once asked how he felt about getting so much recognition later in life. He quoted his mother as saying “if you got some flowers for me, bring them to me now.” With that quote in mind, the song came together pretty quickly. I love the sound of acoustic instruments. I’ve played electric guitar for years and enjoyed every minute of it, but for my ears nothing beats the warm organic sound of an acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle, or other hollowbody instrument. – Jon Spear
