“Afterlife” is Ryan David Green on guitars, vocals, bass, keys and percussion; with string arrangements, violins, and violas by Ben Plotnick; cellos by Kaitlyn Raitz and dobro by Abbie Gardner. Sometimes the most insightful and profound conversations take place with a small child. This song explores that phenomenon with questions of mortality and an afterlife, accompanied by high quality acoustic guitar picking and string phrases.
One night, while putting my then three-year-old son to bed, he started asking deep questions about what happens after we die. “Do we go straight to heaven, or does it take awhile to get there? Will I be able to find you when I’m there?” I tried to pretend to know, and to offer him the comfort and assurance that a child looks for from a parent. But considering he’s now a 13-year-old atheist, I’m not sure I succeeded [laughs]. – Ryan David Green
