Heather Miller – “Suitcase Full of Faith”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Heather Miller’s song “Suitcase Full of Faith” from her recently released album Count it in Moons, newly available as of September 29.  Count it in Moons was produced and mixed by Katie Marie; mastered by Isha Erskine at Mad Scientist Studio and recorded in everyone’s home studios in and around Austin. Album photos were courtesy of  Nichole Wagner and Heather Miller, with design by Emily Shirley.

“Suitcase Full of Faith” is Heather Miller on vocals; Katie Marie on bass, acoustic guitar, and drums; Jana Pochop on electric guitar; and Shawnee Kilgore on harmonies.

This video was created by Seela.  Austin Texas is known for its cadres of excellent musicians and songwriters who coordinate and work together, and Heather Miller is part of one of those,  which you will see evidenced here in the credits for this project.  The song is a showcase of vulnerability, gentle vocals and lyrics that probe the depths of profundity: pretty and cathartic.  The video is gorgeous footage of landscapes and trains, and whimsical artful drawings all amidst the song’s memories that “nothing is the same.” And then: “I got a suitcase full of faith and the music’s calling me.”

“Suitcase Full of Faith” speaks to the plethora of emotions that come from a breakup, and the challenge of holding all of them together in one heart and mind. Writing and playing music was instrumental in my healing journey, providing a compass whenever I felt lost or down along the way. The other key element in moving forward was the music community in Austin, TX. It’s full of supporters and collaborators like Katie Marie,  Jana Pochop, and Shawnee Kilgore, who all sprinkled their own brand of magic on this song.

I love this video made by Seela that includes her original artwork, lettering, and animation, plus vintage train videos, and some footage I took from a road trip to Marfa, TX. — Heather Miller
