Jerry Leger – “You Carry Me”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Jerry Leger’s song “You Carry Me.” from his album Donlands, releasing on October 27. The album was produced, recorded and engineered by Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams) with assistant engineer Aaron Goldstein at Gold Standard Recorders in Toronto, Ontario. It was mixed by Mark Howard and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova.
“You Carry Me” is Jerry Leger on vocals, guitars, and piano; Dan Mock on bass and vocals; Kyle Sullivan on drums and percussion; Alan Zemaitis on keyboards; Aaron Goldstein on pedal steel.
This video was created by Joshua Parrett. Funky and visually compelling with bright colors, grids, and musical scores, the video is full of imagery from the psychedelic ’60s and ’70s. Catchy refrains and lots of fuzz while “you carry me home.”
“You Carry Me” is in a different dimension than the rest of the album but still otherworldly, so it works for me. The content of the words also fits with the other tracks. There’s a feeling of vulnerability and dependency that runs through the record. We recorded it with fuzz on everything and a snarl. – Jerry Leger
