Old Crow Medicine Show at Humphrey’s By the Bay

If you have never seen Old Crow Medicine Show live, dance, don’t walk to the venue the next time they are playing anywhere near you. The band brought their “Paint This Town” tour to Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay in San Diego, CA.

The weather was perfect for an outdoor hootenanny on the water. That’s exactly what you get with Old Crow. Not just a concert but an old fashioned hootenanny. At one point the band challenged the crowd to a dance contest during the song “8 dogs, 8 banjos”. The crowd happily and enthusiastically participated.

The entire evening was like a barn dance without the barn. There were gospel songs, bluegrass songs, classic rock songs, americana songs and even a traditional Mexican song. The band members all play various instruments. Not only were there the basic guitar, drums and bass, there was upright bass, piano, harmonicas, fiddles, mandolin, banjos and even an accordion.
This was the most energetic, fun, good-time show I have seen in a long time.

Adding to the fun times was the very entertaining opening act, Pillbox Patti (real name Nicolette Hayford). She was nominated for both ACM and CMA awards for “One Night Standards” a song she co-wrote with and was performed by Ashley McBryde. She is currently on tour promoting her EP, “Florida.” Find her information here: https://www.pillboxpatti.com
