Alyssa and Wayne Brewer – “Golden Ring”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Alyssa and Wayne Brewer’s interpretation of the song “Golden Ring,” from their forthcoming album Alyssa and Wayne Sing George and Tammy, due to be available on September 15. The album was produced and mixed by Wayne, Mason, & Gary Brewer; engineered by Wayne and Mason Brewer; and mastered by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering.

This song was written by Bobby Braddock and Rafe Van Hoy, and of course made famous as a duet by George Jones and Tammy Wynette, to whom Alyssa and Wayne have made this tribute.

“Golden Ring” is Alyssa and Wayne Brewer on lead and harmony vocals; Nathan Fleming on pedal steel;  Gary Brewer on acoustic and electric guitars; Jenee Fleenor on fiddle; Josh Balz on piano; Mason Brewer on bass, vocals and percussion; and Wayne Brewer on upright bass.

The video was directed by Shane Sooter (Kingdom Life (2022), Smoketown (2018), When the Light Comes with Big Daddy Weave (2019), The Song (2014) and Cassie Arza of (Rare Bird Productions LLC.). Justin Gustavison (Trampled By Turtles video production) was the director of photography. It was produced by Wayne Brewer.  It was edited and colored by Alyssa Brewer (Brewgrass Entertainment) via SGM Records. There is a cameo from American Roots Music Legend, and father of Wayne Brewer, Mr. Gary Brewer himself in the wedding scene as the minister/officiant.

“Golden Ring” is a beloved song for the ultimate catchiness and both the music and the lyrical relatability and of course, the way it was sung.  Here, in this version, again the vocals and the harmonizing are shiny and just wonderful.   Plus, the outfits in the video show high praise themselves and pay perfect homage to the country pillars George and Tammy.  But we’ll let them tell you a little more about that here:

With “Golden Ring” being both of our favorite George & Tammy duets, we were honored to have been able to record it as our lead single on our debut album! As for the video, it was an absolute blast getting to act out, tell and express our interpretations of the different stories throughout the song. Also, we thoroughly enjoyed performing the track in its entirety which we felt gives the fans a taste of our upcoming live shows. As for the outfits, we coordinated all our wardrobe for this video shoot ourselves, which most notably included our custom made stage attire that we personally laid-out, designed and commissioned as our tribute – and hat-tip – to George & Tammy. We approached with the thought in mind to keep the vintage vibe from country music’s golden era but tailored with a modern fit and adaptation (Alyssa’s vintage styled red velvet dress with a more modern body-con fit complete with rhinestone encrusted tassel fringe trim throughout, and Wayne’s white Nudie-esque styled suit which draws influences from Gram Parsons’ iconic Nudiesuit — he was a huge George Jones fan. With added personality featuring red stars throughout, Wayne’s initials ‘WB’ on the collar, a large skeleton playing an acoustic guitar on the back engulfed in red flames, desert cactuses, mushrooms, and more… but most importantly two possums on the chest, front and center, in honor of the possum himself, Mr. George Jones!) — Alyssa and Wayne Brewer
