Douglas Wayne – “Pale Sorghum Lo-fi Blues”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Douglas Wayne’s song “Pale Sorghum Lo-fi Blues,” which was produced by Douglas with Daniel Dennis.
The song was written with vocals and guitars by Douglas Wayne, and is Daniel Dennis on bass and drums; Rodger Morris on B3; and Tori Sparks on backing vocals.
This video was produced, directed, edited with FX by Jerry Brunst of Skull Dug Films. The video chronicles a trip down memory lane – a faded wedding photo, a record needle and old fashioned wash basin — which, when combined with mournful, repetitive lyrics and rhythms result in a hypnotic experience. The almost eerie repetition is memorable, the song is memorable.
I wanted to explore the notion of Cosmic Americana: To do something beyond old school country twang with what we can euphemistically call “contemporary” lyrics. The result is a vamp called Pale Sorghum Lo-fi Blues. — Douglas W.
