Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of XOLEX’s interpretation of the Americana mainstay by Johnny Cash, “Folsom Prison Blues.” The song will be released on May 5th. The track was produced by Bobby Terry (Garth Brooks, Faith Hill).
“Folsom Prison Blues” was vocally performed by Alexis Curran aka XOLEX. All instruments were played by Bobby Terry except harmonica, which is by Mickey Raphael.
The video was directed By CRASHMEDIA. Set in front of a drab and beige warehouse, XOLEX singing solo in from of a lonesome mic qualifies as then a train roars by and blots the music from your ear for a moment qualifies this for a unique rendering. There’s plenty of bluesy swagger, the harmonica is powerful and gritty, and the harmonies are rich as well. “Let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away.”
Usually memories growing up escape me but one that I regularly reminisce about is watching “Walk the Line” with my Dad and being in awe of Johnny’s song “Folsom Prison Blues.” I’ve always wanted to cover it but add my own little flavor to it and when I met my Producer Bobby Terry I knew we could create my vision of it. I hope to perform it one day to inmates myself because I think the message is powerful. — XOLEX
