Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Jake Dwyer Band’s song “Arizona to Blue Ridge” from his forthcoming EP Driving Thoughts, set for release on March 31.
Driving Thoughts was produced and recorded by Dwyer at his very own Shape Studios in Jonesborough, Tennessee. “Arizona to Blue Ridge” features Kevin Portwine on drums, Josh Tipton on bass, and Dwyer on guitar and vocals. Capturing the nostalgia and drive of a person’s life on the road, Dwyer wrote the song after coming home to East Tennessee from a cross-country tour to California at the end of last year. Poignant from the first note, the song taps into the need for reflection that seems to overcome us sometimes, on a road trip as the miles unfold and then the release upon coming back home.
It felt good to get back home and it made me think about the comfort I find living in this region. I already had a concept in my head about how I wanted this EP to sound and I think this single ties it all in. I wanted to touch on some highway sounds. When we went to record it, we went for a slightly retro sound and tried to do as much live as we could. After playing around together for a while now, my band was able to be on the same page through the process. – Jake Dwyer
