Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Andrew Gabbard’s song “Glum and Empty” from his forthcoming album Cedar City Sweetheart. Cedar City Sweetheart album was recorded and mixed by Andrew Gabbard at Family Pet Sounds. It was mastered by Doug Krebs. All songs were written by Andrew Gabbard. The cover photo is courtesy of Mitch LaGrow, with album art by Autumn Barney.
“Glum and Empty” is Andrew Gabbard on lead vocals, harmonies, guitar, bass, and drums; Sven Kahns on dobro; Ryan wells on banjo; Leslie Jankowski on dual fiddles; and M Ross perkins on piano. The opening measures of the song pull you in on twangy strings and a low key, lazy river tempo. “Up on stage I dream of my younger days… can’t forget my younger days, to get through and to make due, don’t know if I could change this glum and empty feeling.” Folks don’t always admit it, but “glum and empty feeling” is part of being a human being having a human experience. Andrew identifies that fact completely right here in this song.
“Glum And Empty” is me reflecting on bad times and how it makes me feel. It is a peek into myself in a desperate moment. Or at least I think it is. Something like that. — Andrew Gabbard
