Mike Miz — “Hell in the Hallway”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Mike Miz’s song “Hell in the Hallway” from his forthcoming album Only Human. The album is due to be available on April 14. Only Human was produced by Mike Miz, Brook Sutton, and Ted Pecchio; it was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Brook Sutton.

“Hell in the Hallway” is Mike Miz on vocals, electric, and acoustic guitar; Nicki Bluhm on vocals; Laur Joamets on electric guitar; Michael Borowski on keys; Ted Pecchio on bass; and Jon Radford on drums and percussion. The whole record was recorded live to 2 inch tape at The Studio Nashville, and you can hear the raw warmth all the way through. This song kicks off with an easy, flowing instrumental upswell and then the vocals follow suit as they climb. “There’s got to be a better way … there’s a couple things I can’t figure out, how come you can’t keep an hound dog from runnin’ when he’s got food and water right there at the house?  Something’s gotta give…” Looking in the mirror, analyzing the human condition, that’s what this one is about.  A cool, chill delivery by Miz and sweet vocal harmonies by Nicki Bluhm round it out.

“Hell in the Hallway” is a feel good Americana soul song about being stuck between a rock and a hard place, recorded live to tape with some of Nashville’s finest musicians. — Mike Miz
