Americana Highways presents this premiere of Sarah Lee Langford & Will Stewart’s song “Robby,”from the duo’s new album Bad Luck & Love, due out Nov. 18th via Cornelius Chapel Records. The album was recorded at Communicating Vessels in Birmingham Alabama. It was engineered by Brad Timko and mastered by Alex McCollough.
“Robby” is Sarah Lee Langford on vocals and guitar; Will Stewart on vocals and guitar; Keelan Parrish on bass; Brian Gosdin on drums; and Ford Boswell on pedal steel. This Birmingham duo has swung hard for the fences and made it out of the park. Beautiful rich harmonies and sad songwriting to rock your ailing soul. Sometimes after a hard fight, you just want to find your way back to the comforts of home, and “Robby” lets you know it’s okay.
This song is an elegiac ode to a friend of mine, a bull-rider-turned-painter, Robby Amonett. However, the core narrative of this tune could represent anyone who has exhausted a dream, adventure or career and looks to ‘find a way back home.’ Letting go of the rope can conjure equal parts hope and sorrow; looking back, letting go and moving on. At some point, we all have to leave the rodeo. — Will Stewart
