Kirby Heard — “Angel Wings’
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Kirby Heard’s song “Angel Wings” from her forthcoming album Ripples in the Wake, which is due to be available on October 14. Ripples in the Wake was produced by Jon Shain; engineered and mixed by FJ Ventre of Good Luck Studio in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and mastered by Jeff Carroll of Bluefield Mastering in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Musicians on “Angel Wings” are Kirby Heard on guitar and lead vocals; Kaitlin Grady on cello; and Laurelyn Dossett on harmony vocals.
Kirby Heard writes traditional style folk songs with poignant lyric lines like “remember how our fingers twined… I hear your voice in the wind,” and creates imagery of loss and unwilling good-byes. This is a moving folk song from an album that draws folks together around common human themes: “It’s hard to face this solitude.”
I’ve always wanted to write a song about the ocean and being at the beach; it is so magical and mystical. I wrote this song for a long-time friend who fought a courageous battle with cancer and for her partner, who steadfastly remained by her side. For Rachel and MJ. — Kirby Heard
