Anderson East – Ryman 11/12
Anderson East played two shows at the Ryman this week – 11/12 & 11/13. Opening each night, was Foy Vance, an incredible artist from Ireland. Foy Vance is one of my favorite artists and it was a treasure to hear his beautiful sound fill the Ryman. His voice is full of heart and soul, and leaves you speechless. His lyricism and authenticity created a gentle and open feeling in the room. He started his set with a few songs on the piano, and rounded it out with multiple acoustic tunes, leaving the crowd beautifully attentive and impacted. If you haven’t heard Foy Vance, run now. His art is some that I am deeply grateful to be impacted by.
Anderson East and his incredible band put on an absolutely incredible show. His voice is a one of a kind, silky and strong and fully timeless. That voice paired with the beautiful musicianship of his band – keys, drums, electric guitar, bass, sax, flute, and trumpet, and two amazing background vocalists – made for such a treat of a show. Truly, one of my favorite shows I’ve seen at the Ryman.
There was a giant disco ball center stage that added to the groovy and soulful vibe they created. Anderson East danced all around the stage, inciting the crowd to do the same in the pews. They sure know how to put on a show, celebrate joy, and share the gift of music in an honest and brilliant way.
