Americana Highways brings. you this video premiere of Rick Shea’s song “Texas Lawyer” from his recently released album Love & Desperation (Tres Pescaderos). The album was mixed by Walter Clevenger, and mastered by Paul du Gré. The song was written by R. Shea, W. Reese, and J. Moyeda.
“Texas Lawyer” is Rick Shea on guitar, mandolin and vocals; Phil Parlapiano on accordion; Dave Hall on bass; Shawn Nourse on drums; Dan Navarro on harmonies; and Probyn Gregory on trumpet.
The video story and editing is courtesy of Charlie McGovern (charliemcgovern@sbcglobal.net); and it features Susie Moyeda; with inspiration by Laura Lovelace. Rick Shea tells an honest down-home Western tale complete with twisted turns in his songs, with clean tones and an endearing vocal tone. The timeless story in this song is brought to life in the video with modern imagery. Let the legend of the Texas lawyer meets its fate.
This song is a tale of treachery and deceit that takes place in the badlands of Tamaulipas, the borderlands between Brownsville Tx and Ciudad Victoria in Mexico, a noir story where everyone is guilty of something. The Spanish refrain is from my father in law Johnny Moyeda and translates loosely as “You will get what you deserve for your treachery”.
We shot the video at my home here in the San Gabriel valley, additional footage at various locations between here and Yucca Valley Ca. Many thanks to Charlie McGovern for this, and to everyone who played on the recording, and who helped me to write the song. — Rick Shea
