Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Jeremy Garrett’s version of this song “Footprints” by Jai Uttal. The song appears on Garrett’s forthcoming album Wanderer’s Compass. The album was produced by Jeremy Garrett (Infamous Stringdusters), engineered by Jeremy Garrett, Scott Barnett, and Billy Hume; mixed by Garrett and Van Atkins; and mastered by Scott Barnett at Crossroads Studios.
“Footprints” is Jeremy Garrett on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, vocals, and programming; with Jason Hann on percussion.
The video was created by Jason Gutworth. This is extremely innovative and exploratory contemporary fiddle playing on a superlatively timeless melody. The video continues the song’s intent with dramatic, psychedelic negative film footage of the band in kaleidoscope and lights. You must click “play” to believe it.
I first heard “Footprints” by Jai Uttal on a sampler project many years ago. It’s the type of melody that would wake me up randomly, going through my head over and over, throughout the years. It seemed to fit perfectly with my experimental fiddle science project and so I set out to record it. This track is basically 5 fiddle loops, stacked up with effects, along with beats and I love to perform it live. For the video, I recruited my friend and lighting extraordinaire Jason Gutworth to help capture and edit together the most psychedelic version of the song we could to fit the vibe. I hope you enjoy it! — Jeremy Garrett
