Video Premiere: Liam Purcell “My Old Banjo”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Liam Purcell’s song “My Old Banjo,” from his recent release Roots.

Liam comes from Deep Gap, NC, which is Doc Watson’s town, and oh yes, you can catch the vibes here in this song!

The video is courtesy of Rob Laughter.  Glorious small pickin’ gig footage and the sweet banjo sounds of Liam Purcell render you instantly nostalgic.

I wrote ‘My Old Banjo’ my first semester in the Berklee College of Music, I was quickly becoming overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The song is a soft lamentation on the state of the modern world and responsibility. We tried to echo that sentiment with a wistful music video produced by Rob Laughter. The video depicts the struggle of two worlds for the time and attention of a person. The creative and peaceful world of passion, filled with timeless locations and nature, in contrast with the business and technology centered world which constantly interrupts our minds and homes. The video features in part the Historic Todd General Store which has since been lost to a fire, and is one of the last glimpses inside the building before it burned to the ground. ‘My Old Banjo’ is part of a full length album Roots which debuted at #6 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts, and reached #5 on the Folk Alliance International Monthly Airplay Charts and #15 on NACC Folk chart. — Liam Purcell
