Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of The Alex Leach Band’s song “Take Me Back” from his forthcoming album Happiest When I’m Moving, produced by Jim Lauderdale. The album was engineered Clay Miller at Crossroads Studios, Arden, NC; mixed and mastered by Van Atkins with cover photos by Sandlin Gaither.
“Take Me Back” is Alex Leach on rhythm and lead guitars and vocals; Miranda Leach on lead and harmony vocals; Josua Gooding on mandolin and vocals; Brandon Masur on banjo; JT Coleman on bass; with guest John Rigsby on fiddle.
The Alex Leach Band builds songs of hope. And hope is buoyed all through this song, from the lyrics to the vocals and the clear strings of the instruments. This is a nostalgic song about the hope of reconnecting.
Miranda and I were sitting at a picnic table at Norris Dam State Park on a hot summer day writing some possible songs for the new album. After finishing an up-tempo ‘feel good’ song, we decided to start working on something a bit more mellow when a few words started to flow. After a few lines, ‘Take Me Back’ started to lead us through a journey of possible second chances, yet unpredictable timing. — Alex Leach
