Song Premiere: Chicago Farmer’s “Indiana Line” feat. Band of Heathens

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this song premiere of Chicago Farmer’s song “Indiana Line” from his upcoming album Flyover Country, due out Feb 7th.  The Band of Heathens is Chicago Farmer’s backing band on the album, which was recorded, at the Heathens Finishing School Studio in Austin Texas.  “Indiana Line” is Chicago Farmer on vocals and acoustic guitar; and The Band of Heathens Ed Jurdi on vocals, acoustic & electric guitars and harmonica; Gordy Quist on vocals, acoustic & electric guitars; Trevor Nealon on all things keys; Richard Millsap on drums and percussion; and Jesse Wilson on bass.  The album was recorded February 2019 at The Finishing School in Austin, TX; produced by Ed Jurdi, Gordy Quist, & Chicago Farmer; and engineered & mixed by Chris Harden.

With an ominous western intro, “Indiana Line” builds up to a foot stompin,’  thumpin’ instant singalong.  This bodes very well for Chicago Farmer’s Flyover Country.  The harmonies with the Band of Heathens are irresistible, and the style is absolute contagion.

I’ve been driving back and forth on I-74 from Illinois to Indiana since I was 16 years old. In that time I can’t remember when some stretch of it hasn’t been under construction. On a recent trip when the lanes merged into one and came to a standstill, I had some time to think up this tune. It’s the tale of a guy from Illinois who owed some folks in Indiana a lifetime worth of debt. Instead of chipping away at it though, he devised a plan to pay it all off in one night. Unfortunately, like many things in his life and like many of Chicago Farmer’s characters, things didn’t quite go as planned. His early confidence in the song slowly leads to his possible demise at the end, at The Indiana Line. –Cody “Chicago Farmer” Diekhoff
