Song Premiere: John Surge and the Haymakers’ “Studio Apartment Blues”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you John Surge and the Haymakers’ song premiere “Studio Apartment Blues” from their forthcoming release Your Wonderful Life (Twang City). “Studio Apartment Blues” is John Surge on vocals and acoustic guitar; Randy Volin on electric guitar; Simon Runge on drums; Ted Russell Kamp on bass; Carl Byron on piano; and featuring Marty Rifkin on pedal steel who also played on Bruce Springsteen’s Western Stars album.

With the right kind of pedal steel, “Studio Apartment Blues” is delightful mix of country and roots rock grooves.  With the cluttered-tiny-apartment blues, Surge taps into that universal sense that we just aren’t quite home yet. With songs like this, Your Wonderful Life promises to provide a friendly passage into fall.

This is a tale about faded dreams and being stuck in place,” says songwriter Surge. “And how outside forces can take a life off course.” The song features veteran L.A. pedal steel player Marty Rifkin who also played on Bruce Springsteen’s “Western Stars” album. — John Surge
