Song Premiere: The Small Calamities’ “Summer in Chicago”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of the Small Calamities’ “Summer in Chicago” from their album due out this fall.  The project was produced, arranged, and edited by Charlie Wolf, and “Summer in Chicago” was mixed by Kyle Dreaden in Nashville and mastered by Dave Downham at Gradwell House Recording. The Small Calamities are Charlie Wolf on vocals, guitar and songwriting, Hayden Parker on drums, Jim Posen on bass and Bobby Victor on synth, and featuring Gwen Weston on harmonies.

“Summer in Chicago” is jangly indie-folk dripping with summertime roadtrip melancholy.  The harmonies swell and put this potent little number up over the top on your must-have list.

Last summer I took a road trip and ended up in Chicago. I hadn’t been there in a long time, and I was overwhelmed walking around and remembering all the people and places I left behind there in a past part of my life. Due to bluetooth issues, I could only listen to the ‘Red’ album by Taylor Swift on repeat over and over on the five hour drive out of town to Detroit, and by the time I got to the hotel I did my best to channel the combination of melancholy in my heart and country-pop in my ears into a song. – Charlie Wolf, songwriter for The Small Calamities
