Silver Lake 66 — “Blue Earth Country”
Americana Highways presents this video premiere of lead track “Blue Earth County” from Silver Lake 66’s recent release Ragged Heart. Ragged Heart was produced by Maria Francis, Jeff Overbo and Bryan Daste.
“Blue Earth Country” is Maria Francis on acoustic guitar and vocals, Jeff Overbo on vocals and electric guitar, Bryan Daste on pedal steel, Toupee Zehr on bass, Chaz Holmes on drums with Hank Rasco on Hammond Organ.
The video, with its gorgeous roadtrip footage spliced in with homey shots of the band, was produced and directed by David E. Lane. The striking characteristic of Ragged Heart is the energy of the instrumental interplay, with a throwback early ’70s style and tones to match. With lines like “I need to find my blessing, it’s all that I can do,” and its classic country musical approach, “Blue Earth County” is a country western style hoedown. The band’s energy is irresistible, and the vocal harmonies are divine.
The song “Blue Earth County” is about the life changing decision to move from the Midwest to Los Angeles, and the subsequent journey to our current home in Portland, OR – where we found our musical tribe. The title of the song refers to the county Jeff grew up in in Southern Minnesota. Much of the road footage of the video was shot by us (Maria and Jeff ) on our recent West Coast tour from Portland down to LA, and back again. — Maria Francis
