Double Song Premiere: Shawn Mullins Re-Records “Soul Child” for “Soul’s Core Revival” Both Acoustic and Electric

Listen & Watch Song Premieres
Americana Highways is excited to bring you this double song premiere of Shawn Mullins’ “Soul Child,” in both acoustic and electric versions.  Mullins’ has re-recorded his 1998 smash hit album Soul’s Core Revival, due to be released on November 16.  The release will come as a double CD package with two full versions of Soul’s Core: the first, as recorded in the studio with Mullins’ band Soul Carnival and other guests; and a second version solo with introductions before each song about that song’s original genesis.  The album was produced by Gerry “Gator” Hanson, and engineered by Glenn Matullo (the original 1998 album’s engineer) and John Keane (Indigo Girls, R.E.M) in Athens,  Georgia.

Both newly re-recorded versions of the song “Soul Child” feature Mullins’ multi-tonal vocals and the piano just like you remember.  But the new studio recordings are more relaxed, confident and expanded, with wide-open lingering spaces. The stripped down arrangements are crystal clear, evolved and mature versions of the ones on the earlier, platinum selling album.  As Mullins puts it:

“I think Soul Child is really about me singing to myself more than anything. When I look back on it, it’s a been long time since I’ve written song but, I’m just singing to myself, ya know, “Stay wild my soul child and don’t you let ‘em bring you down.” It’s like Kris [Kristofferson] says, ‘Don’t let the bastards get you down.'”

Mullins speaks during the opening of this acoustic recording, too.  Find tour dates and info here, http://www.shawnmullins.com/index.php while you’re listening to BOTH of these tracks, here:
