Lucero’s Ben Nichols Created Film With Brother Jeff Set To “Long Way Back Home”

News & Events

Ben Nichols, Lucero’s lead vocalist and frontman, teamed up with his brother Jeff Nichols, (the filmmaker) to create Long Way Back Home, a short film inspired by the band’s song.

The film relays the story of the character Stanton as he searches the streets and backroads of Memphis for his two younger siblings.  Garrett Hedlund and Scoot McNairy play the parts of the younger brothers. Set to the backdrop of Lucero’s song track, tensions mount as the song builds and we realize Stanton may actually be hunting them, instead. We can no longer tell whether he is searching for them to welcome them home,  whether he has something more sinister at heart.

Stanton is played by Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Shannon, who previously appeared in Among the GhostsLong Way Back Home also features Paul Sparks, and the Lucero band members. The film was produced by Sarah Green and Erin Freeman and filmed partially the band’s hometown of Memphis, TN and partially in Arkansas, the Nichols brothers’ home state.

Lucero’s album Among the Ghosts was released earlier this month.  To read our review, click one of these bolded words
