Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Amber Westerman’s song “Rose Colored Mess” (co-written with Lauren McLamb and Chris Raffetto) from her forthcoming album, which is set for release next year. The album was recorded and produced by Larry Gast, and mixed and mastered by Tyler Spratt.
Musicians on “Rose Colored Mess” are Amber Westerman on lead vocals; Larry Gast and Jesse Garcia on guitars, banjo and background vocals; and Larry Gast on guitars and additional instrumentation.
As Amber Westerman tells us about the song, “‘Rose Colored Mess’ is really about learning to let yourself be fully seen. For a lot of my life, I felt like I had to present the most lovable, put together version of myself to feel accepted, and I still fall into that trap sometimes. Falling in love with my husband was a big turning point because he was the first person I truly felt safe enough to show all the layers and colors of myself to, and he loved me regardless. As I’ve grown, I’ve realized the most beautiful relationships in my life are the ones where I don’t feel like I have to hide all the messy parts. This song became a love song for the people who have loved me as I am, but the original idea was also a love song for myself. I’ve always been inspired by nature because nothing about it is perfectly orderly, but it’s still beautiful. “Rose Colored Mess” is my way of celebrating that same kind of beauty in being human.”
This song speaks to that part of us that wants to put our best forward image and be desirable and perfect, but then discovers underneath it all it’s better just to be loved as our authentic selves. Lovely guitar licks support the thoughtful vocals in a vibe of self expression.
