Ned Hill “Drive”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Ned Hill’s song “Drive” from his forthcoming album Saw Jesus at the Park. The album was produced and mixed by Dave Coleman at Howard’s Apartment Studios, East Nashville, and mastered by True East Mastering.

“Drive” is Ned Hill on lead vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica; Dave Coleman on lead guitars, backing vocals, six string bass, melodica, and accordion; Tina Simpson on violin, viola, and backing vocals; Jared Manzo on bass; Brady Beard on piano and organ; Chris Benelli on drums and percussion; and Kirsten Cassel Greer on cello.

Ned Hill tells us a little about the song, “I knew I wanted to write an uptempo song, a little more on the rockin’ side. A feeling of frustration and alienation came through as the lyrics started to form, and a need to escape it and find a sense of relief. When walking around in a world you don’t recognize, sometimes you have to ‘Drive’.”

The music is toe tapping roots rock of the most head nodding, enjoyable kind. “Drive” laments the daily bombardment of bad news, backsliding in the areas of moral justice, and pressures that we find ourselves fully surrounded in, and then taps into our most basic desire to flee, and just “drive.”  “The echoes of 1964 play in my mind, it’s all too much, it’s just too much.”
